Off to Baltimore!

Today is a big day getting ready for FBLA Nationals!
Packing, planning, checking lists, mentally preparing for a long week in Baltimore!
Two students from Cambria-Friesland School district are heading to National FBLA Conference tomorrow. 
Hanna Raley, a Junior, will be competing in Database Design and was ranked 4th in the State of Wisconsin. 
Joshua Fischer, a Senior, will be competing in Public Speaking and was ranked 1st in the State of Wisconsin. 
It's a very exciting time indeed.  We will be flying on Tuesday and heading to Washington DC for an all day tour on Wednesday of the sites in our great nations capital.  This will be my 3rd trip to DC and I love it there.

Day 5 March of Dimes Walk, Fort Tour, Awards Ceremony, Shenanigans

The day started early and HOT.  We went to the March of Dimes Walk for Babies at the convention center where over 1000 people walked and raised money for awareness and funding for premature babies, health care for expectant mothers, and research for infants. This infant was 2lbs 4 oz when born.  The parents walked with us. She was showing the first size diaper and sleepers he wore. Next we boarded another bus to tour around Baltimore communities, churches, and learn in depth about the "Star Spangled Banner".  The inside of Ft. McHenry and the story of the battle in 1814 was very interesting.  We learned the flag had 15 stars and 15 stripes and you can tell which due to the red stripe right under the blue starred piece. Day 4 - Adventures in Baltimore and DC

Day 4 revealed no pressure to compete, so Josh and his family went to the Library of Congress in DC., an impromptu tour of the Capital and even got to see the President's helicopter land. Here's a few shots of their adventures in DC. Hanna and Kate were off shopping for the day downtown.  It was hot but I went exploring the different neighborhoods by water taxi and then took a cruise around the harbor.  Here are a few pictures: USS Constellation Last submarine to bomb Japanese during WWII Very large ship prop used as art Ft. Camden Yard and Fireworks

Friday night at the ballpark at Camden Yards.  Back on the shuttle bus and headed downtown. The ball park is really beautiful.  Recently remodeled and overhauled and host of many notable players such as Cal Ripken Jr. and featured in many movies like Major League II & Dave along with TV shows such as The Wire, West Wing, and House of Cards. The baseball food is a lot different than we are used to however.  Big sellers are a hot dog with Mac n Cheese and Crab, Chippers, and Pinch Dumplings (Chinese dumplings and cabbage).  I opted for Chippers, homemade potato chips with lots of Old Bay seasoning, ground beef, cheese sauce, shredded cheese, onions, and bacon, lots of bacon.  It was good, but very salty and way too much.  All the food portions here are WAY too big.  After the game loss to the Angels, there was music and fireworks.  Finding our hired ride back was a challenge but we were safe with one of the traffic officers who waited wit...
